Installation

In cloud computing

A service image is a pre-configured template for creating a virtual machine (VM) or cloud server. It is essentially a complete snapshot of a virtual disk with a bootable operating system and can also include software, settings, and application data.

Key characteristics:

  • Encapsulation: It contains all the necessary components to run a virtualized service, including the OS, preinstalled applications, and configuration data.
  • Efficiency: Using a service image saves time by eliminating the need to manually configure the same software on every new virtual machine.
  • Consistency: Images ensure that all VMs created from them are identical, guaranteeing a consistent and repeatable deployment. This is crucial for large-scale or high-performance computing deployments.
  • Image Management: Cloud providers and services like Huawei Cloud and Docker offer features for managing and sharing images.
    • Public images: Standard images provided by cloud platforms that are available to all users.
    • Private images: User-created images that can be shared with specific individuals or used internally.
    • Docker service: In Docker Swarm mode, a service image is the foundation for creating microservices that can be deployed across a distributed environment
